About

The Center for Labor Market Studies (CLMS), 1979-2014, was an applied research, evaluation, and policy-oriented technical assistance unit located within the Department of Economics of Northeastern University.  The Center produced a variety of research publications on a wide array of topics, was actively involved with employment and training organizations and professional research associations, and disseminated research and evaluation findings to the national and local media.

Research Topics

Under the direction of Professor Andrew Sum and Professor Paul Harrington, the Center conducted both sponsored and non-sponsored research on a diverse array of labor market, education, literacy, job training, human resource program, planning and evaluation, and family issues at the national, regional, state and local level. Currently, this site features four collections of highlighted research: Boston Public Schools; Gender, Race, and Ethnicity; The Great Recession, and High School Completion. Selected publications from four major research partners are also highlighted. Other digitized publications may be accessed through the Browse feature.

The Collection

When the Center for Labor Market Studies closed in 2014, all archival material and publications were transferred to the University Archives and Special Collections department of Northeastern University Libraries. Selected CLMS publications were scanned and made available in the Libraries' Digital Repository Service, and are now collected on this site.
